What's proposed

Add a Conditional Use Permit to the Agricultural zoning to allow the expansion of the existing public school: a one-story, 9,200 sq ft addition with six classrooms, a storm shelter, restrooms and service/support areas. On-site work also includes electrical, chiller, boiler and fire alarm upgrades, some architectural renovations and a new playground. It is part of the voter-approved 2025 Mesquite ISD bond. Submitted by WRA Architect on behalf of Mesquite ISD.

Staff recommendation

Not published. The agenda text says only that staff recommends the City Council take action after the public hearing. The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval 7-0 on Sept 28, 2026.

Watch for

  • Growth: current enrollment of 510 is about 78% of the future design capacity of 658. The school is not expected to reach 658 in the near term; if it grows, double-stacked car queuing could be added.
  • The City's Traffic Engineering Division says it will keep monitoring traffic as enrollment and operations change. No other traffic conditions are listed in the agenda text.
  • No responses in favor or in opposition have been received from owners within the notification area.

Next step

This is the final vote: the Mesquite City Council holds the public hearing and considers the ordinance on Oct 19, 2026. P&Z already recommended approval on Sept 28.
